How to save big money on a kitchen update. The first step to saving money on any project is to make a plan. In my case this was fairly simple as my kitchen layout would only accommodate a certain number of cabinets and appliances. Next I had to decide what my dream kitchen would be like. From this vision I could begin to see what my realistic kitchen would most likely turn out to be. What could I live without. What could I not possibly live without. I could probably do without stainless steel appliances. Unless of course they could be found at bargain prices. Probably settle for less than granite or quartz countertops. The floor was still in excellent condition. Although hand picked tile would be gorgeous. I must remember my original intent is to keep the cost down. I want to reuse what can be reused. Recycle what can be recycled. And stay as environmentally friendly as possible. Next I had to decide what needed replaced, updated or demolished.

There are other things to consider in a remodel project of any size. Buying your merchandise from some where other than a retail store may require temporary storage. You may need to store the replacement cabinets, appliances, sinks, countertops, faucets and other miscellaneous items that you will use in your new kitchen. Also how to dispose of old cabinets and appliances. And how much of the work can you or those willing to help you actually do.
