Habitat Day 2001- Planting wildlife vegetation at Mille Lacs Wildlife Management Area.

2001 HABITAT DAY REPORT

Rain may have dampened the turnout, but didn't the spirits of your fellow Twin Cities RGS members at this year's Habitat Day. Joining the Twin Cities RGS chapter on its habitat day project were cub scouts from Pack 289 in Crystal.

Under the leadership of scoutmaster, Roger Hagerman, the scouts assisted in planting food plots that will be enjoyed by Ruffed Grouse as well as deer and other wildlife.

Minnesota DNR Regional Forrest Wildlife Coordinator, Tim Quincer, and RGS Regional Biologist, Rick Horton instructed this year's attendees on the proper use of planting tools and how to space the seedlings so that the food plots would grow to optimum size.

Your Twin Cities RGS chapter adopted the Mille Lacs Wildlife Manage Area as its show case for habitat projects because of its closeness to the Twin Cities and the variety of habitat projects that the chapter can do.

Hopefully next year's Habitat Day will find a sunny day and warm temperatures. Usually held at the end of April, consider joining us and mark your calendars now. Check the website in February for actual date and time.
