Sportsmen for Change Webinars

SportsmenforChange.org is hosting Web seminars to educate sportsmen about the details of the proposals.

To check out the seminars, go to sportsmenforchange.org. When sportsmen began the effort to dedicate a portion of sales taxes to fish, game and wildlife, A citizens council was included to oversee the expenditure.

Pioneer Press's CHRIS NISKANEN Outdoors Editor Article 12/13/2007:

"A coalition of conservationists, hunters, anglers and environmentalists wants the Legislature to give citizens more say in state conservation funding.
When lawmakers convene Feb. 12, the coalition wants the Legislature to create a citizens advisory council to help oversee the spending of a potential new stream of money from the state's sales tax.
"We're asking for a nine-member citizen panel that would make recommendations on spending the money to the Legislature,'' said Lance Ness of the group Rally for Ducks, Wetlands and Clean Water.
First, the Legislature would have to approve a proposed constitutional amendment earmarking a portion of the state's sales tax for natural resources and other cultural programs.
In the waning hours of the legislative session in May, a bipartisan House-Senate conference committee put the final touches on an agreement setting the ballot language for a proposal that has been 10 years in the making.
The agreement puts on the 2008 ballot a question asking voters to approve a three-eighths of 1 percent sales tax increase, which would generate about $292 million annually and about $7 billion over the 25-year life of the legislation.
Here's the breakdown: 33 percent of the money for fish and wildlife habitat, 33 percent for clean water, 19.75 percent for arts and culture and 14.25 percent for parks and trails."
